MRUCT: Mixed Reality Assistance for Acupuncture Guided by Ultrasonic Computed Tomography

Overview:

I have designed and developed an AR system to guide needle insertion intra-operatively during acupuncture therapy for both skilled and unskilled practitioners. Imaging from 3D-Ultrasound was visualized in-situ using Hololens. This work was published in IEEEVR-2025 (co-first).

Why Important?

It’s challenging for unskilled practitioners to insert acupuncture needles accurately based on experience and feeling. This system can help them and improve accuracy significantly. A novel 3D-UI was designed for ultra-thin needle insertion guidance.
